About the service
The Free NHS Contraception Service lets eligible patients access oral contraception and emergency contraception without needing a GP appointment.
After you complete the online consultation, we may arrange a pharmacist phone call to confirm what is suitable and give you a chance to ask questions.
If approved, your medication is delivered discreetly to your door.
Free NHS contraception eligibility
- Live in England (if you live in another part of the UK, you can still access this service, but it may come with a fee)
- Be either starting the contraceptive pill or getting a repeat supply
- Have begun menstruating
- Be 49 or younger for the combined pill
- Be 54 or younger for the progesterone only pill
We recommend under 16s obtain contraception from a local GP, pharmacist, or sexual health clinic.

Can I get free emergency contraception
Emergency contraception (the morning after pill) is covered by the Free NHS Contraception Service. If you need it sooner, you can also access it through other NHS routes, including sexual health clinics.
Can I change my contraception
Yes, you can change your contraceptive pill through this service. You can switch pill types during your online consultation, subject to pharmacist approval.
